Workshop: The Future of the Workplace

BRIEF

With the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, many countries are implementing mandatory quarantine, asking institutions and businesses to close their doors and set-up remote work for their employees. As such, and as we find the answer to “which of these meetings could’ve been a phone call”, we start to wonder whether it’s time to redesign our lives.

The question surrounding the future Workplace isn’t new, but for the first time, it’s being experimented and experienced. As the current workplace adapts and takes shape, we have to wonder weather it will affect the Future Workplace, or if everyone will go back to his or her offices, shared workspaces, and home set-ups after the lockdown is over.

I invite you to explore this question with me. Explore it spatially, philosophically, realistically, economically, sociologically, etc.

To do so, you will start by outlining your Thesis: this will define your point of view, and will guide the rest of your project. You will then develop it with guidance from the committee and feedback from your fellow participants. On the last day of the workshop, you will present your project in any format you choose; you have full creative control over it.

PS: There are no bad projects; all opinions are welcomed and encouraged. The significance of this exercise lies within the discussions we’ll all be sharing with each other.

Question:

How do you perceive the Future of the Workplace?
